Position Overview

This role requires an experienced Special Education Instructor (SPED) who holds the necessary certifications to work within an educational environment. This is a full-time, contractual position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement lesson plans aligned with established Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Guide students through the learning process to achieve educational objectives, clearly communicating goals for lessons and projects.
  • Assess and evaluate both academic and social skills of students.
  • Facilitate the development and ongoing assessment of IEPs for students in their classroom, making necessary updates based on evaluations and annual reviews.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and other educators regarding student progress and needs.
  • Review and analyze student records, assessments, and program information to inform teaching practices.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in Special Education from New York is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with IEP processes is essential.
  • Applicants must not have been employed by the NYC Department of Education within the past year.
  • B-2 certification is required.
