The Registered Nurse - Specialty provides patient-centered care in a culturally sensitive manner, employing evidence-based practices to ensure quality, safety, and service while addressing the unique needs of diverse patient populations.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Responds promptly to incoming communications.
- Regularly checks voicemails and assesses the urgency of calls to determine the necessary level of care.
- Utilizes established protocols to prioritize, advise, schedule, or refer calls to the appropriate medical staff.
- Collaborates with the financial team to secure treatment authorizations using clinical expertise.
- Evaluates assigned patients, documents nursing care, and reports any changes in patients' conditions and vital signs.
- Adjusts treatment plans based on patient responses, conditions, and physician directives.
- Reviews and interprets diagnostic tests to monitor patient health.
- Engages with physicians and healthcare professionals to develop, implement, and assess patient care plans.
- Prepares patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, ensuring their comfort and understanding.
- Takes into account patient age and cultural background during treatment, providing necessary information regarding care plans.
- Fosters a supportive environment by offering psychological assistance to patients.
- Conducts necessary patient tests and administers medications safely within the scope of practice.
- Maintains accurate records of medications and treatments in compliance with regulatory standards and physician orders.
- Communicates care plans effectively to patients, families, and team members, ensuring adherence to all regulatory guidelines.
- Utilizes available resources to assist in discharge planning.
- Organizes, prioritizes, and adjusts tasks to achieve goals and deliver exceptional patient care; seeks assistance when necessary.
- Operates medical equipment safely and effectively.
- Acts as a mentor to new staff, aiding their integration into the healthcare environment.
- Complies with University and unit-level policies and procedures, safeguarding institutional assets.
Education:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program; Bachelor's degree (BSN) preferred. RNs with an Associate's degree (ASN) must complete the BSN within two years of hire.
- Valid Florida Registered Nurse License, along with ACLS and BLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
- A minimum of two years of nursing experience is required.
Patient safety is paramount. UHealth Tower mandates annual influenza vaccinations for all employees involved in patient care.
