Job Title: Respite Worker

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Respite Worker to join our team at Easterseals NY. As a Respite Worker, you will provide short-term relief to caregivers who are responsible for the primary care and support of individuals with developmental disabilities.

Job Summary:

The Respite Worker will provide indirect services, including in-home respite and recreation respite, to individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and adults with autism or other developmental disabilities and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide protective oversight for assigned individuals
  • Assist with personal care and provide reminders and simple assistance for activities such as eating
  • Follow service plans designed by the care coordination team
  • Encourage individuals toward self-reliance
  • Understand and respect the confidentiality of individuals and families
  • Accept responsibility for compliance with all policies, procedures, and service requirements of Easterseals and the Respite programs
  • Complete and maintain all required documentation
Requirements:
  • High School, GED, or equivalent diploma
  • Experience working with children and adults with developmental disabilities
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to meet the physical, emotional, and intellectual needs of individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Computer skills and literacy
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bi-lingual fluency in English and Spanish
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly
