Job Title: Associate Director, Pitch Competitions, Venture Lab

The University of Pennsylvania, a world-renowned leader in education, research, and innovation, seeks an Associate Director to lead its Venture Lab's pitch competitions, including the annual Startup Challenge and biweekly pitch nights. This role will enable Venture Lab to deliver co-curricular learning opportunities in innovation and entrepreneurship to Penn students and connect them to Penn alumni leaders and experts for practical instruction, advice, mentoring, and networking support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the annual Startup Challenge, a multi-stage competition throughout the academic year, providing Penn student contestants with the opportunity to present and receive feedback on their business ideas or startups from alumni judges.
  • Lead bi-weekly pitch nights during the academic year, providing Penn students with the opportunity to develop effective communication skills, receive feedback, and validate their business idea, and get exposure to the Penn entrepreneurship community.
  • Support the Venture Lab leadership team in developing a Summer at Venture Lab initiative that consists of workshops, cohort design, and participant awards, leading strategic planning and implementation of the initiative, including selection of student startups/participants, work plan, budget, communications, and risk.
  • Prepare management reports and presentations for Venture Lab leadership to deliver, develop performance measurement plans, collect and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), and support Salesforce data entry and management.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience with program management, developing dashboards and frameworks for business and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated forward-thinking mindset and creativity, problem-solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, creating detailed project work plans, and managing complex projects with cross-functional and cross-organizational teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to function both independently and as part of a team, with excellent collaboration and team-building skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and comfortably with diverse groups of students, senior executives/professionals, and staff, with demonstrated ability to cultivate and manage relationships professionally and with good judgment with a variety of stakeholders.
