Seasonal Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) / Surgical Services / Temporary / Variable Shifts
Qualifications:
- Completion of high school or equivalent education. Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
- At least 2 years of clinical experience in an Operating Room setting is preferred.
- Certification as an Operating Surgical Technologist is mandatory.
- BLS certification is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will establish and uphold a sterile environment for both minor and major surgical interventions, utilizing specialized knowledge of aseptic techniques.
- Demonstrate expertise in handling specialized instruments, equipment, and supplies essential for the Operating Room.
- Efficiently organize instruments, equipment, and supplies to ensure quick access and optimal workflow.
- Be available for emergency call duties as necessary.
- Adhere to established protocols for preparing sterile fields and instruments for specific procedures.
- Stay informed about the procedures conducted in the Operating Room.
- Return unused supplies to inventory on a daily basis.
- Implement safety principles in all tasks performed.
- Utilize basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology to assist during surgical procedures.
- In collaboration with the Registered Nurse, prioritize tasks based on operational demands.
- Recognize personal limitations and seek guidance from appropriate personnel when needed.
- Be vigilant in identifying errors in your work and that of others, taking corrective actions as necessary.
- Maintain proficiency in job responsibilities through participation in in-services, seminars, and self-directed learning opportunities.
- Stay aware of hospital and departmental operational standards that influence job responsibilities.
- Actively engage in the Department Quality Improvement Program.
- Utilize Meditech for viewing the OR big board, documenting patient information, printing preference cards, and managing instrument trays.
- Follow established lines of accountability for continuous quality improvement.
- Promptly communicate any changes in physician preferences to the Team Leader for updates to preference cards.
- Adhere to policies and procedures regarding counts.
- Coordinate with CS staff about instrument turnover, including any broken, missing, or damaged instruments.
- Communicate with the board runner when exiting the department for any reason.
