Job Overview

The Environmental Specialist II will spearhead ecological assessments, including wetland evaluations, habitat surveys, and the development of NEPA documentation and permit submissions. This role involves supporting engineering initiatives across various projects by overseeing the preparation of environmental documents and applications for both state and federal permits.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will prepare submissions for state agencies and federal permits, with a focus on transportation-related projects. You will utilize your understanding of NEPA regulations and other environmental laws to create technical reports and outline project proposals, including scopes and budgets. Proficiency in GIS software will be essential for producing map products, and you will represent the Environmental Group at public forums for intricate transportation projects.

As a vital member of the team, Environmental Specialists collaborate closely with planners and engineers throughout project phases, from scoping and design to construction and beyond. You will provide technical mentorship to junior environmental staff and assist in the development of proposals, which includes crafting environmental scopes, timelines, and financial plans.

Professional Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline
  • Relevant years of experience in the field
  • Conduct environmental assessments for NEPA documentation
  • Familiarity with NEPA regulations and other environmental laws
  • Experience with infrastructure projects (e.g., highways, facilities, rail, transit) for both private and public sector clients is preferred
  • Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist or Wetland Professional in Training is advantageous
  • Experience with bat surveys is a plus
  • Commitment to accuracy, quality, and relationship-building with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills are essential
  • Proficiency in Esri, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office; familiarity with MicroStation or AutoCAD is beneficial
Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this role is $105,000 - $120,000. This range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and work location.
