About the Position:

This is a full-time position requiring 40 or more hours per week. The inspector will be responsible for ensuring quality control and contract compliance on heavy highway, road, and bridge construction and maintenance projects.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring quality control and contract compliance on heavy highway, road, and bridge construction and maintenance projects.
  • Inspecting various aspects of work and project installation to ensure proper construction.
  • Documenting pay quantities for current and final estimates.
  • Completing daily summaries of construction activities and work performed.
  • Interacting with contractors and advising them of violations, making recommendations for adjustments, and reporting status to senior inspectors or designees.
Requirements:
  • Three (3) years of highway construction inspection experience.
  • A working knowledge of roadway, structure, and bridge construction/maintenance/repair/rehabilitation methods, materials, standards, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual, and Inspector Manual.
  • Familiarity with use of contract management software including Site Manager, PlanGrid, and/or AWP.
  • Mathematics skills including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Soil and Aggregate Compaction VDOT or NICET LEVEL II certification.
  • Asphalt Field Level I & II VDOT certification.
  • American Concrete Institute ACI certification.
  • Pavement Marking VDOT certification.
  • Slurry Surfacing VDOT certification.
  • Surface Treatment VDOT certification.
  • Flagger Certification VDOT certification.
  • Certification for Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection Virginia DEQ certification.
  • Nuclear Gauge Safety Training NRC recognition.
  • Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification*** Virginia DEQ certification.
  • Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control VDOT Approved Provider certification.
  • 10 Hour OSHA Safety Training OSHA certification.
  • GRIT (Guardrail Certification) VDOT certification.
