Job Summary:

The Logistics Planner is responsible for creating, scheduling, and managing all incoming and outgoing shipments at the assigned plant(s). This role involves overseeing transportation planning for assigned customers and managing the transit of inventory to assigned partners. The Logistics Planner will utilize and develop sustainable systems and standard operating procedures to maintain master data integrity and meet company core values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute shipment of raw materials and finished goods from shipping facilities to customer locations in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Track and trace shipments to ensure on-time error-free delivery to customer locations, effectively communicating exceptions to appropriate contacts.
  • Support operations by working closely with Carriers, Customer Service, and shipping facility personnel, developing work procedures and streamlining work activities to identify, investigate, and eliminate recurring problems.
  • Handle operational issues that arise and escalate with Carriers and Supervision as necessary, working with Materials handling to ensure efficient loading operations and carrier pick-up scheduling.
  • Identify and execute cost savings opportunities.
  • Provide expertise on functional and cross-functional teams, special projects, etc., being knowledgeable of procedures and utilizing knowledge to work directly with functional groups to obtain resolution.
  • Identify, support, or implement process design/modifications identified as a result of audits, Lean, Six-Sigma, or other initiatives.
  • Improve transport planning effectiveness via development and/or enhancement of planning models, processes, and tools, sharing best practices with the planning community.
  • Lead or serve as Logistics Representative on cross-functional teams.
  • Provide back-up for other logistics planner positions, actively participating in training and sharing knowledge with others.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of key customers, suppliers, and products in the area of responsibility.
  • Proactively monitor carrier tender acceptance and routing guide usage, identifying trends and service improvement opportunities, providing feedback regarding carrier performance in meeting requested shipping dates.
  • Provide in-depth analysis of delivery reliability data and monitor for ongoing systemic issues.
  • Identify recurring service failures to key customers and escalate with Supply Chain Manager/Supervisor and Logistics Procurement Managers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost and carrier service levels to meet customer demands.
  • Develop delivery alternatives to meet customer delivery requirements (expedite, swap options).
  • Drive resolution to urgent customer needs as well as responding to non-conformance/complaint resolution.
  • Utilize appropriate transportation management system to tender and schedule bulk transportation to meet customer requested delivery dates, communicating/escalating as appropriate, updating transportation management system with current shipment information.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, Logistics, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Business, Operations, or related field preferred.
  • 3-5+ years' experience in logistics, transportation, distribution, order fulfillment, or similar role.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level and understanding of transit times and logistics.
  • Experience with a transportation management, warehouse management, or ERP tool such as SAP ERP.
  • Experience in a manufacturing facility, chemical manufacturing preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organization and time management skills to effectively manage work and multiple tasks to execute tasks in a timely manner with a sense of urgency.
  • Able to interact and communicate professionally and effectively across functions and all levels within the organization.
  • Highly detail-oriented.
  • Problem-solving skills.
