Under the guidance of departmental leadership, the role involves preparing high-quality biological blood components within designated timelines, adhering to regulatory and operational standards as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures and departmental protocols.
Responsibilities:
- Manufactures Red Blood Cells (RBCs), Fresh Frozen Plasma, and Recovered Plasma.
- Produces Neonatal RBCs and sterile docks Pedipaks to Platelet Apheresis and Neonatal RBCs.
- Conducts leukoreduction of Whole Blood and RBCs.
- Creates Cryoprecipitate, Pooled Cryoprecipitate, and Cryo Reduced Plasma.
- Labels products to comply with regulatory and inventory standards.
- Manufactures additional specialty products as required by clientele.
- Adheres to procedures for the proper storage of RBCs, platelet products, and frozen products.
- Performs and documents equipment function checks and quality control as necessary.
- Maintains productivity levels to meet departmental production targets.
- Participates in weekend, holiday rotations, and on-call duties as required.
- Completes other assigned tasks as needed.
- Ensures compliance with all policies and standards.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience:
Less than 1 year of related experience (1-6 months) or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read, interpret, and compose documents such as operating forms, maintenance instructions, and departmental manuals.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Capability to apply judgment to written or oral instructions.
- Proficiency in computer use and data entry.
- Adept at managing interruptions in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to organize work to ensure efficient workflow in component manufacturing.
- Flexibility to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule based on blood collection volume and timing.
- Ability to work independently with minimal written or oral guidance.
- Familiarity with military time.
Tools and Technology:
Proficient use of general office equipment (computer, printer, fax, copy machine) is required.
Experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
Familiarity with software systems (Blood Establishment Computer Systems, Title21) is required.
Knowledge of lab-specific equipment, including but not limited to:
- Sealants
- Centrifuge
- Water bath
- Scales
