Position Overview

Salary: $125,000 (Full-Time) - negotiable

About the Role:

As a vital member of the SPCA of Wake County, you will play a crucial role in our mission to enhance the lives of animals and the community. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team of veterinary professionals and technical assistants who are committed to delivering exceptional care to shelter pets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality medical care to a diverse range of animals, from healthy pets to those with critical health issues.
  • Collaborate with the medical team to devise innovative approaches for optimal animal health and welfare.
  • Promote continuous improvement and creative solutions within the shelter to elevate the standard of care.
  • Work closely with various departments to ensure efficient operations and effective resource management.
  • Engage with the development team to share inspiring stories and medical achievements for community outreach.
  • Provide mentorship and support to medical staff, fostering their growth and development.
  • Implement Fear Free handling techniques and train staff on their importance.
  • Conduct surgical sterilizations and post-operative examinations to ensure proper recovery.
  • Administer vaccinations and diagnostic tests to animals.
  • Adhere to all organizational and medical protocols, maintaining professional standards at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Current North Carolina Veterinary License or eligibility to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to acquire a DEA license.
  • Knowledge of shelter medicine and best practices for spay and neuter procedures.
  • Strong decision-making and diagnostic skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.

Working Conditions:

This position requires a commitment to a 40–45 hour work week, typically Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed. The role may involve exposure to various environmental factors and requires physical stamina.
