Deaf Mentor

We are seeking a Deaf Mentor to join our team at Anixter Center. As a passionate advocate for inclusivity and social change, you will play a vital role in supporting families with children who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing.

• Collaborate with families to determine and achieve program goals.
• Support families' communication opportunities with their child, including all communication approaches.
• Provide relevant information, resources, and advocacy as it pertains to families' individualized needs, priorities, and goals.
• Teach sign language and early literacy techniques to a variety of participants.
• Provide information on assistive technology for DDBHH individuals as it relates to families.
• Outreach to parents and professionals regarding the Connections Youth Program.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• BA degree in social work, psychology, counseling, early childhood education, or related human services field preferred.
• Must be Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing.
• Be flexible with scheduling sessions.
• Knowledge of technology available to assist with effective communication with families.
• Ability to be inclusive, open-minded, and supportive of family decisions with their communication and amplification approaches.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to an operational vehicle to transport self to various locations.
• Must follow HIPAA laws and other policies of the program.
• Ability to promote and adhere to agency values.
• A commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and equitable work environment.
