Registration Specialist

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Registration Specialist to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our patient access team, you will be responsible for managing patient registration and financial obligations, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information, entering it into our registration and billing systems.
- Collect and process patient payments, including deposits, co-payments, and deductibles.
- Prepare and present necessary paperwork, including consent forms and financial obligations, to patients and their families.
- Balance daily receipts and manage cash drawers, ensuring accurate and timely processing of patient payments.
- Perform medical necessity checks and complete Advanced Beneficiary Notices as required.
- Schedule, reschedule, or cancel patients in accordance with hospital workflows.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- State criminal background check, and federal, if applicable, as required for state department of health regulated areas based on physical work location.
This is a high-volume, fast-paced environment with frequent interactions with patients, medical staff, and support staff. You will be exposed to communicable diseases and must be able to work in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.
Skills and Abilities- Ability to accurately utilize applicable computer software and equipment for access processing.
- Demonstrate knowledge of procedures to report and/or document unsafe/hazardous conditions, incidents, and defective equipment in compliance with hospital policy.
- Requires considerable attention to detail, the ability to be organized, and to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Requires the ability to understand medical insurance requirements for payment and basic knowledge of covered services.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to understand written and verbal communication.
