Overview

Job Summary:

The roles and responsibilities of the Paramedic Supervisor include personal safety and the safety of others, patient assessment and emergency care; safe lifting and moving, patient transport and transfer, record keeping and data collection, and patient advocacy. The ability to mentor other employees, demonstrate leadership abilities during difficult and stressful times. Must be able to maintain operational control of the department at all times. Must be able to maintain compliance with ambulance service policy # EMS 307 "Shift Supervisor"

Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital's mission, vision and values. Paramedic or intermediate license through appropriate state and national registries with valid driver's license in good standing with the state.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

1. Daily Confirmation of staff performing equipment preparation and inspection; vehicle / office cleaning.

2. Collects and documents all pertinent information.

3. Performs QA/QI of charts during each shift.

4. Respond to High Acuity / Mass Causality Calls.

5. Confirms dispatch information, determines best route to and from call, drives responsibly and safely.

6. Assigns calls and determines additional resources needs, initiates assessment and treatment based on each situation.

7. Assist crews with collecting information, restocking and any other logistics such as maintenance and refuel.

8. Create staffing plans and coverage for out of town transfers, provide plans and logistics.

9. Assist restocking the ambulance, drug boxes and equipment, and ensures the completion of all reports and data information.

10. Performs ambulance maintenance, equipment maintenance and ensures radio equipment is operational.

11. Responds to calls within time guidelines and delivers care appropriate to needs of patient within basic and advanced life support guidelines.

12. Maintains competency in delivery of emergency medical care requiring the use of suction, immobilization equipment, intravenous infusions, medications, cardiac monitors/defibrillator/pacer and performance of other skills within scope of practice.

13. Participates in continuous education program to improve competence in ambulance service and operations.

14. Working knowledge of city / county geography and ability to safety drive an ambulance under emergency conditions.

15. Completes patient care reports at time of care delivery and accurately documents care.

16. Adheres to facility guidelines along with state / federal laws, regulations and guidelines for emergency medical services.

17. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with local pre-hospital providers, hospital and within the community that is served.

18. Able to lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.

19. Communicates with receiving facility to receive medical direction and provide critical information.

20. Communicates with call coordinators and / or dispatch to receive call data.

21. Perform basic patient care with minimal supervision and within established policies on all age groups within the Emergency Department, such as but not limited to vital signs, venipuncture within hospital guidelines.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:

License or Certification:
Licensure & Certification: Paramedic License in the state of Alabama required. FP-C, CCP-C with Alabama Critical Care Endorsement preferred.

Reasoning Development:

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Deal with problems involving several variables in or from standardized situations.

Mathematical Development:

Add and subtract two-digit numbers. Multiply and divide 10's, and 100's by 2,3,4,5. Perform the four basic arithmetic operations with coins and as part of a dollar. Perform operations with units such as cup, pint, and quart; inch, foot, and yard; or ounce and pound.

Reading:

Read and understands instructions, safety rules, etc. Records data via paper and electronic means.

Speaking:

Speak with poise, voice-control, and confidence, using correct English and well-modulated voice.

RELATIONSHIPS TO DATA, PEOPLE AND THINGS:

Data:

Compiling: Gathering, collecting and classifying information about data, people or things. Reporting and/or carrying out a prescribed action in relation to information is frequently involved.

People:

Speaking, hearing, talking with people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving directions to staff, patients, families and/or visitors.

Things:

Manual dexterity: Use of body members or special devices to work, and perform functions pertinent to accomplishment of job assignment.

Education:

High school graduate or GED. Maintain current BLS certification. Instructor Certification preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of EMS / Pre-hospital experience required. Leadership or Supervisory experience preferred.
