Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care under the guidance of the Physician, Nurse Supervisor, and/or Practice/Office Manager. This individual recognizes patient needs and symptoms in advance, providing care that is tailored to their unique requirements. The LPN prepares patients for exams, assists during treatments, coordinates tests and follow-up care, and records treatment in the medical record. Additionally, they assist with patient and family education, demonstrating competency and skills to serve patients of all ages, including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Professional Practice and Responsibility: The LPN practices within the scope and in accordance with Nursing Practice Standards and Code for the Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses put forth by the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses, Inc. (NFLPN). They promote health promotion in the performance of clinical care using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and individualized care coordination.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: The LPN coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model. This includes diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods, timely documentation, and a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
- Professional Development and Initiative: The LPN completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required mandatory education, and licensure requirements. They serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other practical nurses and unlicensed staff or students, ensuring a current and future qualified workforce.
- Evidence-Based Practice and Research: The LPN promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing. They participate in shared decision-making groups and committees as able, upholding all health care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description and professional association.
Graduate from a practical or vocational nursing program. Required. All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. Current/active license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Georgia. Required. Must have a current BLS card from the American Heart Association prior to hire date. Required. ACLS/PALS may be required in some practice areas.
Required Minimum Experience and SkillsPrevious healthcare experience Preferred. Experience in ambulatory, outpatient setting Preferred. In some cases, hospital-based experience may substitute. Required. Specific experience in practice specialty Required. Must be organized and manage time efficiently to assure patient comfort and satisfaction. Attentiveness to detail. Strong interpersonal/human relations skills, interact positively with staff, providers, and patients. Must be able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language, optimize the use of technology to support clinical care and holds basic computer skills.
