Position Overview:

  • The ultrasound/sonographer at St. Anne Hospital - ML is tasked with the daily oversight and organization of the assigned scanning area, ensuring to report any equipment malfunctions and high-risk scenarios.
  • Deliver and uphold a superior standard of ultrasound imaging services for both medical professionals and patients, while maintaining a clean and secure environment.
  • Effectively conduct ultrasound examinations utilizing a comprehensive level of theoretical, practical, and technical expertise.
  • Reports directly to the Unit Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced clinical technical services for precise ultrasound diagnostics across various fields including obstetrics, gynecology, general abdominal, small parts, musculoskeletal, and ideally vascular.
  • Engage with patients and colleagues in a courteous, clear, and supportive manner.
  • Accurately evaluate, implement, and document examination results on the designated worksheets in accordance with established protocols and Radiologists.
  • Accountable for documenting personally generated data.
  • Ensure patients receive comprehensive post-procedure instructions.
  • Oversee the safe operation of high-value ultrasound equipment.
  • Supervise the safe use of specialized equipment utilized by junior staff and students.
  • Identify and report medical consumable inventory that requires replenishment.
  • Regularly conduct basic quality assurance checks on equipment and maintain documentation in the appropriate files.
  • Report any equipment issues to the Clinical Imaging Manager or Team Leader.
  • Maintain effective communication with orderlies, clerical staff, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals at all times.
  • Communicate complex scan results, including malignancies and severe fetal abnormalities, to Radiologists and Clinicians as per departmental protocols.
  • Deliver sensitive results regarding fetal abnormalities and fetal demise to the Radiologist/Referrer to facilitate timely patient management.
  • Exercise empathy and tact in challenging situations with patients who may be distressed or demanding.
  • Uphold the patient's rights to confidentiality and privacy.
  • Adhere to manual handling policies and infection control procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Imaging or a Diploma in Medical Ultrasound.
  • Minimum one year of experience as an Ultrasound/Sonographer in a clinical setting.
  • AHA Basic Life Support certification required.
