Position Overview:

This role is designated for an Air Reserve Technician (ART) within the Environmental Protection Agency. ARTs are integral members of the regular career civil service, enjoying comprehensive benefits associated with Federal employment.

As an ART, maintaining active membership in the assigned Air Force Reserve unit is mandatory. Typically, ARTs engage in military training for approximately one weekend each month.


Qualifications:

Applicants will be assessed according to the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. While a specific duration of experience is not a prerequisite for most blue-collar roles, candidates must meet any outlined screen-out criteria and demonstrate through experience and training the requisite knowledge and skills necessary for the position.

The primary screen-out element for this role is the capability to execute the responsibilities of a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC with minimal supervision.


Key Responsibilities:

Your qualifications will be evaluated based on your expertise in the following areas:

  • Understanding of electrical principles (AC/DC), solid-state circuitry, and safety regulations pertinent to aerospace ground equipment and AC/DC generator power systems.
  • Comprehension of internal combustion diesel and gasoline engines, as well as gas turbine compressors.
  • Familiarity with the USAF Technical Order Program and associated procedures, alongside regulations and policies regarding maintenance records, documentation, safety, and security requirements.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and utilizing wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, and publications.
  • Skill in troubleshooting complex electronic, hydraulic, HVAC, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with hand and power tools, testing equipment, electrical meters, and specialized tools.
  • Ability to install, operate, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and modify generators and uninterruptible power systems.
  • Capability to apply shop procedures and provide training to others.
  • Knowledge of safety and security protocols as outlined in applicable standards.

Additional Information:

This position requires adherence to Air Force Reserve standards. The work schedule will be structured to facilitate participation in unit training assemblies (UTA). While the primary responsibilities will focus on ART duties, some non-ART tasks may be assigned, generally not exceeding 30% of total duties.

Incumbents may need to prepare equipment for shipment and perform related tasks as assigned. Flexibility in working hours, including potential overtime and off-shifts, may be necessary to meet operational demands.


Physical and Environmental Requirements:

This role involves physical activities such as pulling, pushing, walking, standing, crawling, bending, kneeling, and climbing. The incumbent may work in various conditions, including exposure to drafts, temperature changes, and noise.

Safety measures must be followed rigorously, including the use of protective equipment to mitigate risks associated with the work environment.

Credit will be granted for relevant unpaid or part-time work, including volunteer experiences that contribute to the necessary competencies for this position.
