Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment, including decontamination and sterilization of caging and associated items.
  • Receive, house, and transport animals, supplies, feed, and bedding, while logging relevant information for proper maintenance.
  • Identify and notify veterinary staff of ill or injured animals, providing research-specific diets, treated water, and specialized housing arrangements as needed.
  • Conduct animal census and record relevant information according to approved procedures.
  • Clean work areas, wash and wax flooring, walls, ceiling, and lighting fixtures in animal holding rooms, cage wash areas, and associated corridors.
  • Maintain inventory of stock entering and leaving the facility.
  • Log information pertinent to autoclaves to ensure sanitation and sterilization processes are maintained.
  • Assess condition of caging equipment and recommend replacement or repair as necessary.
  • Sanitize caging and related equipment using automated cage washing equipment and sterilizers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Lab Animal Technician (AALAS) Certification in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience required.
