Position Overview
The CAD Configuration Specialist plays a pivotal role in crafting tailored product configuration logic and categories, such as trailer bodies, electrical systems, refrigeration units, and more, within a 3D CAD framework. This position ensures that the resulting solid models and production-grade drawings accurately represent the intended designs. The specialist will leverage product features and option selection codes to create a wide array of product configurations, facilitating inventory procurement, manufacturing processes, and sales presentations to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop feature and option selection logic for engineering design templates and charts.
- Create product templates that modify components to yield a finalized 3D CAD output.
- Oversee the modeling and development of all necessary parts for assembly completion by trailer category.
- Ensure thorough validation, testing, and final design release of all parts and template-driven assemblies.
- Regularly maintain and update templates and 3D model files as needed.
- Provide technical guidance related to CAD to production and design engineers.
- Influence project direction and establish standards.
- Assist in developing innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer Graphics Technology, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of design experience utilizing CATIA and/or SolidWorks.
- Experience with CATIA annotated models or model-based definitions.
- Proficient in using CATIA Knowledge Advisor Workbench to achieve desired outcomes based on established logic.
- Skilled in employing CATIA Functional Tolerance & Annotation workbench for model annotation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of CATIA V5 with at least 5000 hours of practical application.
- Expertise in CATIA workbenches including 'Part body', 'Sheetmetal', 'Drafting', and 'Assembly'.
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic.
- Self-driven and capable of executing projects with minimal oversight.
- Willingness to take ownership of decisions and their consequences.
- Able to manage multiple trailer categories on a daily basis.
- Capable of quickly reviewing existing template logic, diagnosing issues, and performing necessary maintenance.
- Demonstrated exceptional skills in one or more of the qualifications listed above.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to remote manufacturing facilities when specific product assignments require it.
