Our patients are at the core of our mission, and as a Pedorthic Specialist at Hanger, you will utilize your extensive training and be part of a collaborative clinical community of nearly 1500 professionals to deliver comprehensive pedorthic care. Your responsibilities will include assessing patient needs, developing treatment strategies, executing those plans, and ensuring follow-up care while engaging in practice management. For those who have yet to obtain certification, you will work under the guidance of certified clinicians.

In this role, you will merge your clinical expertise with technical skills to evaluate patients and custom design, fabricate, and fit footwear, prosthetics, and/or orthotics, ensuring exceptional outcomes for those you serve. You will work alongside other rehabilitation team members and leverage cutting-edge technology as we collectively strive to empower human potential.

Your Contributions

Depending on the operational needs and size of the Hanger Clinic, your responsibilities may encompass some or all of the following:

  • Collaborate with medical professionals to assess and analyze a patient's need for pedorthic services, recommending treatment options as necessary.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of patients' needs concerning medical conditions and functional impairments.
  • Design pedorthic devices tailored to individual patient requirements.
  • Select appropriate materials, create cast measurements, and modify models while considering the latest techniques and materials.
  • Perform fittings, including both static and dynamic adjustments.
  • Assess the effectiveness of pedorthic devices and any related prosthetic or orthotic devices, making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal fit, function, and quality.
  • Educate patients on the proper use of pedorthic, orthotic, or prosthetic devices.
  • Identify and resolve issues to guarantee patient satisfaction with the provided devices.
  • Maintain follow-up communication with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Provide training sessions for physicians and allied health professionals.
  • Implement effective materials management and quality processes to enhance device quality while balancing costs and operational performance.
  • Engage with medical professionals, case managers, and referral sources to promote pedorthic services and build lasting business relationships.
  • Develop and execute strategies to meet and exceed revenue goals in collaboration with management.
  • Document detailed clinical notes in patient records.
  • May mentor newly certified clinicians.
  • Assist other clinical staff as needed.
  • Provide necessary information to administrative personnel for reimbursement processes.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and compliance standards, including Medicare and OSHA requirements.
  • Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned, which may include on-call responsibilities or working across multiple clinic locations.
Essential Qualifications
  • Current board certification in Pedorthics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver's license and a driving record that meets Hanger's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy standards.
  • In states requiring licensure, the ability to obtain and maintain state licensure may be necessary.
  • Consideration may be given to candidates with at least 5 years of relevant experience in providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under the supervision of a certified clinician.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift patients using appropriate biomedical techniques throughout the workday; must be capable of lifting up to fifty (50) pounds independently.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach consistently during the workday.
  • Visual acuity sufficient for maintaining accurate records and recognizing individuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and audibly, to provide and receive instructions.
  • Ability to maneuver wheeled equipment throughout the facility.
  • Fine motor skills necessary for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment, and supplies for treatment.
  • Ability to engage in sustained activities for extended periods in accordance with labor laws.
