Microsoft is seeking a seasoned Principal Hardware/Software Engineer to join our Azure Hardware Systems & Infrastructure (AHSI) team. As a key member of our Leading-Edge Architecture Pathfinding (LEAP) team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of cloud computing.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled engineer with a strong background in system architecture, hardware engineering, and software development. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving the architecture of future SmartNICs, including the hardware/software interface, and collaborating with various partner teams to ensure end-to-end software-hardware system solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Drive the architecture of future SmartNICs, including the hardware/software interface
  • Collaborate with system engineers and architects in the Azure services team, software development teams, and engineering teams at external silicon and systems vendors
  • Simulate, incubate, and prototype system technologies to demonstrate their viability
  • Engage with Azure's supplier ecosystem on collaborations that deliver on the above charter
Requirements
  • 10+ years of technical engineering experience
  • 9+ years of experience in system architecture for infrastructure components (SmartNICs, switches)
  • 5+ years leading significant projects
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant experience in PCIe/CXL, Ethernet, or both
  • Simulation experience
  • Skilled in partnering and influencing system engineers, computer architects, hardware design engineers, and executives
