JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse in Cardiac Rehabilitation is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing the educational needs of patients within the cardiovascular inpatient demographic. This role primarily involves post-operative care for CABG patients, as well as pre and post-catheterization support and management of other cardiac conditions. The RN also takes on teaching and leadership roles, maintaining composure and professionalism in emergency situations. Participation in departmental committees, statistical monitoring, and Performance Improvement initiatives is expected. Minimal supervision is required, and the RN must demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills while collaborating effectively with nursing staff, medical professionals, patient families, and other rehabilitation personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Oversee the direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned areas.
· Evaluate the cardiovascular inpatient population to create educational plans in accordance with AACVPR guidelines.
· Identify individual risk factors related to cardiac and pulmonary diseases and assist in risk stratification.
· Recognize the need for patient reevaluation if conditions change and require intervention.
· Document all patient care activities in compliance with departmental and hospital policies.
· Develop personalized educational plans based on patient goals and expectations, adjusting as necessary.
· Review patient histories and medical records to formulate care plans that include behavior modification through activity and dietary interventions.
· Facilitate the CABG discharge class in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
· Manage the transition process from phase I to phase II of cardiac rehabilitation, assigning eligible patients to phase II and providing follow-up as needed.
· Exhibit flexibility by providing cardiac rehabilitation services across both hospital campuses.
· Actively engage in patient education and community programs by organizing classes and providing instruction.
· Cross-train in the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program and maintain a flexible schedule as required.
· Demonstrate proficiency in assessing emergency patient situations that necessitate physician or emergency medical interventions, maintaining a calm demeanor while directing the team appropriately.
· Support departmental activities to ensure operational and salary expenses align with the approved budget.
· Understand the principles of Performance Improvement, seeking opportunities for process enhancement and personal skill development.
· Uphold confidentiality principles and understand legal/regulatory requirements related to information release, utilizing relevant information systems as needed.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Florida.
· A minimum of one year of experience in a cardiology-related patient care unit is required.
· Critical care experience is preferred.
· Comprehensive knowledge of cardiac diseases, anatomy, physiology, risk stratification, exercise physiology, and nutrition is essential.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required from an accredited organization.
· Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification is recommended for outpatient settings.
· Intermediate computer skills are necessary, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
