Job Title: Instructor in Biological Science

Job Summary:

The University of Tulsa seeks a highly qualified Instructor in Biological Science to join our faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching first-year laboratories, as well as other courses in the Department of Biological Science.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach first-year laboratories (BIOL 1611 and BIOL 1711) in the fall and spring semesters.
  • Teach other laboratory courses, such as Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Genetics, depending on staffing needs.
  • Develop and implement course syllabi, following established departmental, collegial, and institutional guidelines.
  • Provide timely and quality feedback to students through personal consultation, email, and other means.
  • Evaluate student progress and inform them in a timely manner.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Submit paperwork and forms in a timely fashion.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Director of Animal Facilities, with additional compensation and the possibility of release time from teaching.
  • Oversee vertebrate animal care and attend twice-annual meetings of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
  • Supervise students, teaching assistants, and contribute to departmental administrative responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in biological science with 1+ years of teaching experience.
  • Preferred: A doctoral degree in biological science with 1+ years of collegiate teaching experience in organismal biology and/or molecular and cell biology.

Physical Demands:

  • Typing/Keyboarding: Proficiency in typing and using a computer keyboard for extended periods.
  • Speaking: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Reaching: Ability to reach for items on shelves or in cabinets.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to operate office equipment, handle files, and perform other tasks.
