Position Overview

The U.S. Department of the Interior is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Maintenance Worker. This position is open to all U.S. Citizens, including CTAP and ICTAP eligible candidates.

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Conducts carpentry repairs and improvements to various structures, including the installation, repair, and replacement of doors, shelves, windows, and cabinets.
  • Replaces damaged glass panes and repairs concrete or wooden walkways and steps.
  • Applies paints and stains to a variety of surfaces, including interior and exterior structures, and assists in preparation for painting tasks.
  • Performs plumbing duties such as replacing fixtures, valves, and various types of piping.
  • Engages in additional tasks including roof repairs, electrical work, and masonry tasks as required.

Employment Conditions

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Appointment is contingent upon a background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Compliance with the Selective Service Registration Act is required for male applicants.
  • Participation in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program is necessary.
  • A valid driver's license is required for operating government vehicles.
  • Uniform compliance with National Park Service standards is expected, with a uniform allowance provided.
  • Flexibility to work on-call, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be necessary.
  • New federal employees must complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Water Treatment Operators Certificate within one year of employment.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • A government charge card may be necessary for travel and purchases.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old or meet specific educational criteria.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate the following skills and abilities:

  • Capability to perform maintenance tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in interpreting instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
  • Skill in using and maintaining tools and equipment effectively.
  • Knowledge of materials and technical practices relevant to maintenance work.

Volunteer Experience

Experience gained through volunteer work, including National Service programs, will be considered valuable and relevant for this position.

CTAP/ICTAP Information

Current or former displaced federal employees with special priority selection rights must meet the qualifications for consideration.

Education Requirements

No educational substitution for experience is allowed for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
