The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) Recovery Support Specialist at Plum Creek Recovery Ranch plays a vital role in supporting clients recovering from alcohol or substance abuse. This position involves observing and assisting assigned clients with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization.

BHTs are responsible for maintaining a therapeutic environment in a unit and ensuring the safety of clients and staff. They participate in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings, and provide general nursing assistance as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Q30s and 1:1 observations in accordance with hospital standards, ensuring no gaps in observations.
  • Participate in treatment engagement by identifying patients' problems, needs, and strengths, and suggesting modifications to the treatment plan.
  • Co-facilitate didactic, educational, and community groups, encouraging patient participation in therapeutic activities.
  • Communicate patient behavior to the treatment team.
  • Take direction from RN or LVN and float to any unit as needed.
  • Maintain boundaries with patients and employees.
  • Observe patient behavior and work on de-escalation prior to a code, notifying RN to evaluate and assess changes.
  • Respond to all codes, ensuring patient safety.
  • Know the daily schedule and keep patients on track for all events.
  • Speak to patients respectfully, recognizing the impact of communication on patient behavior.
  • Use appropriate phone etiquette for quality calls and address customer questions and concerns.
  • Provide input during shift report.
  • Supervise patients to ensure their safety and involvement in treatment and during transport.
  • Orient new patients to the program and milieu.
  • Carry out general nursing assistance as assigned and supervised by nurse in charge.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic physical environment for patients.
  • Carry out clerical/administrative assignments to support patient care.
  • Participate in activities enhancing professional growth and development.
  • Uphold the Organization's ethics and customer service standards.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED required. Current valid driver's license.
  • Prior experience in mental health and/or recovery support in an inpatient setting, preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain approved CPR and CPI certification.

  • Ability to work independently while being a team player.
  • Possess the skills to network with all resources to provide excellent customer service.
  • The ability to ensure a safe and clean working environment, complying with OSHA, Plum Creek Recovery Ranch, and the BHT Scope of Practice.
  • Excellent customer service skills to handle continuous customer contact.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and good problem-solving skills in pressure situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with co-workers and the public.
  • Good vision to read documents and view information output from medical equipment.
  • Must have basic PC skills, including working in a Windows Operating System and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality, able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
  • Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact, excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in English; additional language abilities desirable.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to apply time management practices to prioritize, schedule, and complete work effectively.
  • Maintains a cooperative and positive attitude and approach with patients, family members, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to successfully manage conflict, negotiating 'win-win' solutions.
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize with strong time management skills.
  • Exceptional follow-through on tasks and assignments.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and perceive the attributes of objects.
  • Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities requiring detail or important spoken instructions.
  • Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction.
  • Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
  • Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity to complete administrative and clerical tasks.
  • Must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions.
