Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Youth Specialist to join our team at Friends of Youth.

Key Responsibilities:

Residential Youth Counselors will ensure the well-being and safety of youth in our program, providing transportation for medical, educational, and legal needs. They will motivate and engage youth to set and achieve personal goals, modeling healthy communication and daily living skills. Our program adheres to minimum licensing requirements and COA standards to provide exceptional care for youth.

General Tasks:
  • Maintain a comfortable living environment.
  • Display a pleasant, positive, non-judgmental attitude.
  • Demonstrate self-control in stressful situations.
  • Utilize preventative floor management skills.
  • Remain visible and available to youth at all times.
  • Assist in planning recreational activities and participate in extended outings.
  • Develop plans with youth for productive use of free time.
Supervision and Monitoring Expectations:
  • Supervise and monitor all youth in the program, ensuring awareness of their whereabouts.
  • Document the location of all youth.
  • Monitor youth's health and behavior, arranging medical and counseling appointments as needed.
  • Transport and accompany youth to appointments.
  • Report any known or suspected abuse, exploitation, or neglect to Child Protective Services.
  • Assist the Program Supervisor in training volunteers, interns, and relief staff.
Housekeeping Tasks:
  • Encourage youth to complete allowance chores and household tasks.
  • Demonstrate concern and pride in the environment.
  • Create clean and pleasant surroundings.
  • Maintain linen, toiletry, and clothing items.
  • Teach and model age-appropriate personal hygiene.
  • Prepare meals and snacks as necessary.
  • Maintain prescribed medications and dispense them as instructed.
  • Assist youth with school assignments.
Requirements:A. Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or Social Sciences preferred; High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum one year of full-time experience working or volunteering with youth.
  • Experience working with homeless youth and/or youth involved in the foster care system preferred.
B. Additional Requirements:
  • Pass a criminal history check.
  • Pass a tuberculosis (TB) test within the past year.
  • Complete health certification requirements within 30 days: Food Handler's, CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Hold a valid Washington State driver's license or obtain one by date of employment.
  • Have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of Youth.
  • Be 21 years of age or older.
Compensation:

The estimated hourly wage is between $24-$28.
