Job Title: Associate Professor of Clinical, Generalist Division Chief

We are seeking a highly qualified Associate Professor of Clinical, Generalist Division Chief to join our team at the University of Miami. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for leading the Generalist Division in the role of Division Chief.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Chair to execute the strategic planning for the Division and the Department
  • Work with the Chair to attract outstanding faculty
  • Lead clinical and research initiatives
  • Manage the operations of the Division
  • Mentor junior faculty members
  • Work closely with the Director of Patient Safety and Quality and other members of the clinical and research Departmental leadership
  • Interact with UMMSOM, UHealth, and Jackson Health System leadership
  • Active participation in the inpatient and outpatient clinical practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Miami Kendall Medical Center, Desai Sethi Institute, Doral Commons, University of Miami Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospital
  • Participation in the advancement and education of "OB/GYN" medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Develops and carries out a comprehensive medical treatment plan addressing biological, psychological, and sociocultural domains
  • Performs physical assessment of patients in a logical and respectful manner. Prescribes medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients
  • Gathers essential and accurate information through the review of pertinent records and interviews with the patient, family members, caregivers, and other health professionals. Reports to the responsible physician and complies with policy co-sig.
  • Reports hazardous or unsafe conditions, equipment malfunction, and supply instrumentation inadequacies to appropriate personnel
  • Reports all Quality Assurance (QA) incidences, including mediation errors, to responsible physician using department guidelines
  • Assumes responsibility for increasing knowledge and expertise by attending continuing educational offerings
  • Makes informed decisions about interventions based on patient information and preference, up-to-date scientific evidence in the field, and clinical judgment
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations
  • Oversee the obstetric and gynecologic inpatient experiences, including Labor and Birth
  • Oversee Generalist Division outpatient activities
  • Mentor the Generalist Division faculty
  • Oversee the clinical, research, and teaching activities of Generalist Division faculty
  • Develop protocols and implement patient safety initiatives to improve clinical outcomes
  • Monitor quality and appropriateness of medical care, as well as performance metrics
  • Develop Divisional policies and procedures
  • Develop Divisional research and protocols
  • Participate in clinical peer review, documentation, and care planning
  • Ensure that the interface between Division, the Department and other departments are managed optimally
  • Ensure effective team communication and promote a positive culture in the Department
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets
  • Required to cover 12 hours shifts on L&D, 6 shifts per month
Requirements:
  • MD/DO and Board Certified/Board Eligible in Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Certification in relevant specialty or field required
  • Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical license and DEA
  • Ten years of experience as an academic OBGYN Generalist encompassing entire spectrum of clinical practice, education - clinical instruction/teaching, and research
  • Five years of progressive supervisory experience consisting of oversight of other providers, program development and administration, fiscal oversight and management, development of peer or junior faculty research endeavors, and/or other leadership development and growth accomplishments
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary
