The School Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering healthcare services and promoting health education within the East Mountain School community. This position embodies our commitment to excellence in healthcare and education.
Key Responsibilities
- Administers prescribed medications to students, ensuring adherence to medical guidelines and reporting any side effects to parents and relevant staff.
- Maintains precise records of medication administration in accordance with school policies.
- Ensures the secure storage of all medications.
- Provides health education to students regarding health issues and the self-administration of medications when appropriate.
- Delivers first-aid treatment to students as necessary.
- Keeps detailed records of student illnesses, screenings, and health-related incidents, forwarding necessary documentation to designated offices.
- Facilitates medical treatment in emergencies at hospitals or clinics.
- Assists in the review and implementation of health and safety policies, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
- Regularly reviews student health records for accuracy and completeness, notifying relevant personnel of significant health issues.
- Evaluates the health status of students to determine their fitness for school attendance and participation in activities, notifying parents and health authorities as required.
- Provides training to school staff on health-related topics, policies, and procedures.
- Participates in all relevant school meetings.
- Performs additional duties and projects as assigned.
- Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
- Certification as a School Nurse or Emergency Certification for School Nurse from NJDOE.
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification or completion within the first 90 days of employment.
- Successful completion of NJDOE Criminal History Review.
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with students and staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Experience in a psychiatric setting with adolescents is preferred.
- Experience in a school environment is preferred.
