Senior Mechanic Job Description

The City of Torrance, CA is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanic to join our General Services/Fleet Services Team. As a Senior Mechanic, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing our fleet of medium and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair medium and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including refuse trucks, graders, tractors, sweepers, and heavy-duty trucks.
  • Enter repair orders and keep maintenance records of time spent, materials and parts used, and type of work performed in automated systems.
  • Provide technical direction and training to Mechanics and Equipment Attendants.
Requirements
  • Journey level heavy-duty vehicle mechanic experience.
  • Knowledge of current technology, including alternative fuels, hybrid vehicles, and electric vehicles.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent judgment.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician Certification in alternative fuels and medium to heavy-duty vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four years of recent skilled mechanical experience, with at least one year of experience servicing and repairing heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Satisfactory completion of courses in the repair of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment may be substituted for one year of experience.
