Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance Engineer will oversee product development from concept to delivery across a diverse range of turbomachinery in various sectors. This role involves significant input into design for assembly, risk mitigation testing at the component level, and general performance evaluation of turbine and electric motor-driven turbomachinery utilizing both compressible and incompressible fluids. Environmental assessments, including thermal and pressure testing, as well as shock and vibration analysis, are also key responsibilities. Effective coordination is essential, requiring collaboration with a variety of stakeholders, including internal teams, customers, and external vendors across multiple projects of differing phases and complexities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Establish information and processes to support assembly and testing in line with internal and customer specifications.

a. Analyze standard testing requirements from customers and industry to create essential documentation for assembly and testing.

b. Develop and circulate instrumentation lists and diagrams to ensure accurate test setups.

c. Formulate the data acquisition strategy and ensure software is appropriately configured to deliver test results.

d. Investigate and identify specialized testing or assembly tools/software necessary to fulfill project needs.

e. Review customer specifications and provide constructive feedback regarding product testability.

f. Estimate preliminary costs associated with requested testing.

2. Create procedures and processes to verify and validate requirements, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products.

a. Draft, review, and publish technical instructions to provide clear guidance for assembly and testing in accordance with customer specifications and company standards.

b. Develop comprehensive test plans detailing procedures, entry criteria, expected outcomes, and timelines.

c. Document test outcomes in a format suitable for presentation to Project Management, Engineering, and customers.

d. In cases of test failure or performance shortfalls, troubleshoot issues and determine necessary adjustments to conditions or processes.

e. Identify daily safety, quality, and delivery cost concerns and report them during management meetings.

3. Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective information and data transfer to meet customer needs and organizational goals.

a. Work with design teams as needed to create custom test loop components.

b. Partner with Purchasing to ensure that necessary parts and equipment are identified, ordered from approved suppliers, and received on schedule.

c. Coordinate with Strategic Sourcing to identify, qualify, and scope vendors for external testing.

d. Engage with vendors as necessary to ensure testing timelines are met.

e. Collaborate with engineering to ensure that work instructions, drawings, and test plans for assembly and testing are accurate and released on time.

f. Confirm that gauges and equipment used in testing are calibrated and in optimal condition to guarantee test quality.

g. Lead test readiness reviews with Project Management, Engineering, Production, and Quality to ensure programs are prepared for testing according to the test plan.

h. Organize and conduct technical and safety reviews prior to testing to maintain product quality and employee safety.

4. Implement test plans to validate products while adhering to scheduling demands.

a. Review requirements, work instructions, and drawings with technicians to clarify questions and ensure understanding of customer expectations.

b. Execute tests according to the test plan or collaborate with designated personnel to conduct tests.

c. Supervise external vendor design, development, and testing to ensure compliance with identified requirements.

d. Verify and validate the test loop for accuracy and safe operation to ensure requirements are met.

e. Troubleshoot assembly issues and escalate to engineering and management as necessary.

f. Mentor and train assembly technicians on assembly processes.

5. Continuously enhance procedures, processes, and methods to ensure quality with zero defects.

a. Identify and validate lessons learned with the Project Engineering group to drive ongoing improvement.

b. Ensure all lessons learned are integrated into work instructions to enhance product quality and processes.

c. Identify opportunities for improvement in processes and products related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost, and escalate them to the Assembly & Testing Manager.

d. Provide insights to support internal test capability expansion and capital improvements.

e. Participate in continuous improvement teams to facilitate departmental enhancements.

Qualifications:

Education:

· Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience in a high-aptitude manufacturing environment.

Experience:

· Minimum of two years of relevant experience in a complex testing environment.

· Proficient in troubleshooting rotating equipment.

· Proven success in transitioning new products to production testing.

· Experience leading test loop design initiatives, including P&ID creation, test plan development, and component selection.

· Familiarity with testing to various standards such as MIL-STD-810, CE, ATEX, and NASA.

· Ability to conduct testing within budget constraints while adhering to schedules.

Desired Qualifications:

· Experience with recognized quality systems (ISO, AS, QS, TS).

· Proficiency in SolidWorks design.
