Job OverviewPosition Summary:
AIMS Locum Tenens LLC is in search of a skilled Medical Assistant to deliver extensive support to healthcare professionals. The Medical Assistant will play a crucial role in patient care, administrative management, and ensuring efficient clinic operations. This position involves direct patient engagement, handling medical documentation, conducting routine diagnostic tests, and assisting in various specialized medical departments, including NICU, Pediatrics, OBGYN, Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Duties: Deliver services within the scope of clinical privileges assigned by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) Director.
  • Administrative Tasks: Execute responsibilities as outlined in the contractual agreement.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Management of Patient Records: Collect, assess, and oversee patients' medical records in accordance with established protocols. Ensure documentation is complete with provider signatures, stamps, and patient diagnoses prior to returning to Health Records.
  • Assistance to Providers: Support healthcare providers during examinations, ensuring patient comfort and the effective execution of procedures. Facilitate patient transport to other clinical areas as necessary.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications and immunizations to patients following verification by a physician regarding the medicine and dosage.
  • Diagnostic Assistance: Gather lab and X-ray results, perform diagnostic tests such as EKGs and urine analyses, and operate medical devices including Automatic Blood Pressure Monitors and EKG machines.
  • Patient Communication: Reach out to patients concerning appointments, test outcomes, and instructions from healthcare providers. Schedule appointments, conduct reminder functions, and manage patient inquiries.
  • Equipment Oversight: Ensure all medical apparatus is safe and functional. Remove any broken or unsafe equipment from the clinic and notify the relevant personnel.
  • Clerical Support: Undertake receptionist duties, maintain records, and perform clerical tasks such as patient check-in, retrieving records, answering phone calls, and managing logs and reports.
  • Department-Specific Duties:
    • NICU: Prepare infants for screenings, conduct hearing tests, uphold strict patient identification protocols, and manage records and logs.
    • Pediatrics: Administer medications, immunizations, and dental fluoride as prescribed.
    • OBGYN/Women's Health: Monitor patient responses during examinations, take vital signs, and consult with supervisors regarding patient care.
    • Gastroenterology: Assist during colonoscopies and EGDs, perform IV insertions, and operate colonoscopy scopes.
    • Ophthalmology: Execute front desk responsibilities, inform patients of abnormal lab results, and assist with refractive surgery programs.
    • Internal Medicine: Aid in the orientation and training of new staff, propose labs, medications, and referrals, and maintain access to DEERS and Humana systems.
    • Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: Provide education to patients and families, document assessments and treatments, ensure cleanliness, and perform clerical duties to support clinic operations.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED certificate required. Must have graduated from a medical assistant training program accredited by recognized bodies or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory. No additional certifications are required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 3 years is required. Two letters of recommendation attesting to clinical skills are necessary, with at least one from a physician or supervisor.
  • Board Certification: Not required.
  • Licensure/Registration: None required.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of clinical procedures and patient care.
  • Proficient in the use of medical equipment and specimen handling.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
