Job Summary

The Laboratory Retention Specialist will be responsible for maintaining all activities related to sample retention and disposal. This includes proper storage of samples, entering sample information and storage location into the database, disposing of expired samples, and maintaining the sample retention area in a clean and organized manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Store samples in the designated retention area for the specified period.
  • Ensure samples are properly labeled and securely capped.
  • Enter sample information and storage location into the database.
  • Dispose of expired samples in accordance with local procedures and regulations.
  • Notify the Laboratory Manager of bulk waste pickups.
  • Maintain the retention area in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
  • Perform local sample pickups as needed.

Requirements
  • High School Degree or equivalent.
  • Ability to grasp new procedures quickly and work independently.
  • Pass pulmonary test for respirator use.

Work Environment

The workday may consist of 8-12 hours, with possible exposure to high and low temperatures. Work may be performed during day or nighttime hours and may involve working alone. The job requires the ability to lift up to 45 pounds, walk for up to 6 hours, and stand for up to 6 hours.
