We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Officer to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents receiving long-term care in Texas.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct surveys of facilities to assess compliance with federal and state life safety laws, regulations, and interpretations.
- Complete inspection/survey reports listing deficiencies and prepare professionally written reports using our required principles of documentation.
- Verify correction of previously cited regulatory violations and conduct entrance and exit conferences with facility staff.
- Provide facilities with professional knowledge of National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code requirements and applicable local, state, and federal standards.
- Coordinate with agency staff conducting surveys of facilities for certification in the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs.
- Perform desk reviews and reviews plans of correction to ensure compliance.
- Answer questions from providers in person and over the phone.
- Professionally qualified as a Safety Officer.
- Experience in construction, inspection work, fire protection, fire prevention, safety risk management, engineering, or architecture.
- Ability to apply state and federal rules and regulations to detailed inspections of long-term care facilities.
- Ability to regularly climb ladders and inspect attic spaces that may be hot or cramped.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
