Police Officer

The City of Pomona is seeking highly skilled and dedicated individuals to join our Police Department as Lateral Police Officers. As a Lateral Police Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining public safety and enforcing laws and regulations in our community.

We are looking for individuals who possess a strong commitment to public service and have a proven track record of success in law enforcement. As a Lateral Police Officer, you will be responsible for a variety of duties, including:

• Patrolling designated areas of the city to preserve law and order, discover and prevent the commission of crimes, and enforce traffic and other laws and ordinances.
• Responding to general public service calls and complaints, including domestic and public disturbances, automobile accidents, robberies, and related misdemeanor and felony incidents.
• Collecting, processing, photographing, and presenting evidence, including fingerprints, blood, and related physical evidence.
• Enforcing traffic laws and ordinances, checking speed with radar, issuing warnings and citations, and directing traffic at fires, special events, and other emergency or congested situations.
• Conducting traffic accident analyses, conducting investigations of serious injury and fatal traffic accidents, and contacting and cooperating with other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to the apprehension of offenders and the investigation of offenses.
• Maintaining contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserving good relationships with the general public.
• Preparing reports on arrests made, activities performed, and unusual incidents observed, and testifying and presenting evidence in court.

To be eligible for this position, you must:

• Be at least 20 1/2 years of age at the time of applying.
• Have graduated from high school or possess a GED equivalency.
• Hold a valid California Class "C" driver's license.
• Be currently employed and in good standing with a California law enforcement agency, or be a recent academy graduate with a POST-approved certificate.
