Position Overview: The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is excited to present an opportunity for a nurse practitioner or physician associate to become a vital part of our Neurosurgery department at the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC), recognized as a premier Level II Trauma Center.

Role Responsibilities: In collaboration with our neurosurgeons and physician associates, you will be responsible for managing both inpatient and outpatient care on our medical center campus. Key duties include:

  • Conducting thorough patient histories and physical examinations.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribing medications and formulating treatment plans.
  • Providing education to patients and their families regarding treatment options.
  • Participating as a first assist in surgical procedures and sharing trauma response duties with fellow APPs.

The Advanced Practice Professional will engage in a variety of neurosurgical procedures, including but not limited to microdiscectomies, laminotomies, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), burr holes, fusions, decompressions, and anterior lumbar interbody fusions (ALIFs).

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position with a Monday through Friday schedule, consisting of five 8-hour shifts.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing or be a certified physician assistant. Certification from an accredited national certifying body and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification are required, along with a State of Alaska Advanced Practice Provider License. Preferred qualifications include: 2 to 5 years of post-graduate experience managing neurosurgical patients, a strong interest in neurosurgery, excellent clinical skills, outstanding communication abilities, and a culturally sensitive approach.
