The Office of Information Technology at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an Epic Patient Engagement Application Specialist.

This is not a limited-term position.

Purpose

The Epic Application Specialist will act as the primary expert and technical liaison for designated application areas. Responsibilities include leading key projects, managing changes, and addressing the highest level of issue escalation. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of standard principles, theories, and concepts relevant to the technical field, providing solutions to complex challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, development, configuration, testing, and upkeep of clinical information systems, particularly in integrated multi-specialty outpatient care. Serve as a bridge between operational staff, healthcare providers, internal IT teams, system users, and vendors to achieve project goals and resolve issues.
  • Deliver support to end-users both remotely and on-site. Monitor, investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve incoming support requests. Coordinate system updates and modifications with software vendors, and collaborate with the training team and operations for application changes.
  • Develop testing scripts, timelines, and plans for application and workflow modifications. Conduct thorough testing of clinical information system configurations and processes, including cross-application testing and user acceptance testing.
  • Work alongside technical colleagues to identify infrastructure-related issues impacting clinical applications.
  • Enhance technical knowledge of assigned applications, understanding the relationship between infrastructure and user impact in case of unavailability.
  • Provide ongoing support for clinical information systems during upgrades, new releases, enhanced functionalities, and change management, adhering to ITIL processes. Undertake additional duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a health, science, or business discipline, or alternatively, four (4) years of relevant professional experience in clinical, ancillary, or business environments. A minimum of two years of Epic experience is required. Strong familiarity with clinical information systems, clinical informatics, data management, and administration is essential. Proven success in implementing, developing, and supporting information systems within a large healthcare organization is necessary. Active Epic Certification or Accreditation in relevant Core applications is required. Experience working with clinicians in a support or educational capacity is a must. Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, along with strong interpersonal abilities. Current certification for primary EHR modules must be maintained as a condition of employment. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have 5-7 years of experience in clinical information systems or equivalent. Demonstrated involvement in EHR configuration is advantageous. Ability to collaborate with senior staff and management, providing technical insights and guidance on functionality, efficiency, and performance is preferred. ITIL Foundation certification is a plus. Associated Certification, Accreditation, or Proficiency in Epic MyChart, Epic Welcome, and Epic Canto/Haiku is preferred.

Salary Range

$75,000 + depending on qualifications
