Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Food Service Worker to join our team at Hampton County School District. As a key member of our food service team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our students and staff by preparing and serving nutritious meals.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Food Preparation and Service: Assist in the preparation of meal portions, including cooking and baking using various utensils and appliances. Demonstrate the ability to measure and mix ingredients according to recipes, and prepare, season, and cook food appropriately.
  2. Sanitation and Safety: Ensure that all foods meet existing standards for quality, freshness, taste, and appearance. Maintain required sanitary levels throughout the food preparation process.
  3. Cafeteria Operations: Set up the steam table and serving line, obtain and place dishes, silverware, hot and cold foods, baked goods, beverages, desserts, and condiments. Serve students and staff from the cafeteria counter, and maintain prepared and partially prepared foods in optimum condition until served.
  4. Cleanliness and Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and cafeteria areas, wash dishes, clear counters, sweep and mop floors, clean freezers, coolers, and storage areas, and clean kitchen appliances.
  5. Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operate and/or utilize various appliances and equipment such as ovens, stoves, mixers, dishwasher, deep fryer, etc. Notify supervisor of problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies, and assist in food orders and inventories.
Requirements
  1. Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent with demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the job duties; prior lunchroom experience preferred.
  2. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of all standards and regulations pertaining to food service/preparation and sanitation of food service areas. Ability to conduct food preparation and service activities in an effective and timely manner in accordance with all applicable regulations, standards, and requirements.
Working Conditions
  1. Cafeteria/Kitchen Environment: Conduct duties in a cafeteria/kitchen environment with routine exposure to discomforting conditions such as heat, cold, food preparation equipment and utensils, smoke, and steam.
  2. Physical Demands: Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require attention, and meeting deadlines. Physical demands are restricted to kitchen work requiring the lifting/moving of items weighing up to fifty pounds.
