Certified Medical Coder

The Certified Medical Coder will be responsible for converting medical diagnosis, supplies, and processes into standardized codes for filing insurance claims, ensuring compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance rules and regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze and abstract necessary information from medical records to reflect secondary complications and co-morbidity conditions.
- Code diagnosis and/or procedures from medical records, ensuring final diagnosis and procedures are valid and complete.
- Code complex and difficult records accurately, making complete and accurate selections of principal diagnosis and principal procedure/operation.
- Ensure presence of all components of the record, including correct identification, health record number, signatures, dates, and accurate and complete notes.
- Examine level of services to ensure accuracy and appropriateness for documentation in the note and modify when necessary.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations affecting areas of responsibility.
- Knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance program management principles.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene, environmental, and safety engineering, and fire protection.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal occupational safety and health regulations.
- Knowledge of job hazard analysis and other analytical techniques.
- Knowledge of accident prevention principles.
- Knowledge of safety inspection principles.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Skill in managing multiple projects.
- Skills in oral and written communication.
- Skill in prioritizing and planning.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, such as working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals.
Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items.
The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above-average agility and dexterity.
The employee must be able to read, write, speak, and hear.
Education and ExperienceCompletion of a formal training program or an associate's degree and one (1) year of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or GED and three (3) years of relevant experience.
Certified Medical Coding Certification is required.
