Organizational Overview:

Role Overview:

The Retail Associate is accountable to the Ketchikan Family Store. The primary responsibility is to manage the point of sale system, ensuring efficient and courteous transactions with customers. Additional duties include maintaining a clean and organized store environment, performing basic cleaning tasks, and setting up promotional signage as required. The associate will also assist in processing donations and is expected to represent The Salvation Army positively, fostering a safe and professional atmosphere for both customers and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  2. Communicate respectfully and effectively with customers, supervisors, and team members.
  3. Oversee volunteers in line with The Salvation Army's policies.
  4. Manage cash register operations, including accurate cash handling and record-keeping.
  5. Deliver exceptional customer service to all store visitors.
  6. Assist in maintaining orderly racks and shelves.
  7. Utilize various equipment and systems, including computers and point of sale systems.
  8. Respond to phone inquiries as necessary.
  9. Participate in store clean-up and organization efforts.
  10. Attend required training sessions, including child safety, CPR, and fleet safety.
  11. Adhere to dress code policies to maintain a professional appearance.
  12. Assist with loading and unloading items as needed.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager or Corps Officers.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and lift objects up to 50 lbs. Ability to operate a computer and other technologies is essential. Individuals should be capable of learning and following proper lifting techniques.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least 1 year of work experience in any field is required, with a preference for retail or sales experience. Candidates must be able to complete all assigned training and work effectively both independently and as part of a dynamic team.

Skills and Abilities:

Successful candidates will be quick learners, adaptable to new ideas, and proficient in basic math. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is preferred but not mandatory.
