Animal Care Specialist

### Job Summary
This position plays a vital role in the care and management of shelter animals, as well as providing administrative and customer service support. The successful candidate will work in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness, and Teamwork.
### Key Responsibilities
* Process, vaccinate, and microchip animals
* Receive and screen phone calls
* Provide assistance to the public, process adoptions, and animal returns
* Manage customer situations, respond promptly to customer needs, solicit customer feedback to improve service, respond to requests for service and assistance, and meet commitments
* Input data into computer database systems, retrieve, verify, and correct information from the computer system
* Collect monies or process credit cards for fees
* Restock shelter supplies
* Perform minor facilities maintenance, such as painting, changing filters, and replacing light bulbs
### Requirements
* High school diploma or equivalent
* One year of experience, sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. Experience directly related to the work performed is preferred.
* Must complete a baseline audiometry screening and will be required to undergo annual testing as part of the Animal Shelter's Hearing Conservation Program
* Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check and physical
* Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy
### Benefits
Temporary and on-call employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package. However, they are eligible for the Alaska Supplemental Benefits System (SBS), which is in lieu of Social Security and is mandatory. An employee's percentage of gross wages, matched by the Borough (6.13%), on the present wage base of $132,900.
