Job Summary:

As a Patient Care Specialist II at Baystate Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care. Your responsibilities will include performing various technical tasks and bedside functions, working closely with Registered Nurses to coordinate daily activities. You will be responsible for direct patient care, including hygiene, skin care, mobility, and monitoring. Additionally, you will assist with phlebotomy and EKG procedures, manage equipment, and perform or assist in all procedures on the unit.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provides age-appropriate care to patients, demonstrating knowledge of developmental stages and applying developmental theories and concepts when implementing care.

2. Monitors basic physiological parameters, taking and recording routine vital signs within the specified timeframe. You will also obtain and document weights/heights, abdominal girths, and head circumference (Pediatric Service) as per physician/nurse order.

3. Administers treatments and procedures per BMC policy/procedure, including changing dressings within one hour of the specified timeframe and providing post-mortem care as directed by RN.

4. Assists patients with the elimination of body wastes, making available or offering bedpan, urinal, and emesis basin immediately after patient request. You will also accurately label and send specimens of urine, feces, and sputum within 30 minutes of the specified time frame.

5. Performs Point of Care (POC) Testing and assists in the delivery of ancillary services as directed. You will also assist with treatment by following specified treatment plans developed for individual patients.

6. Communicates effectively with team and patients, interacting with patients in a respectful and informative manner. You will also clearly communicate information related to patient care to the team and recognize culturally based patient and family needs.

7. Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures, responding effectively in emergency situations and maintaining patient safety at all times.

8. Functions as a member of the team, assisting team members with clinical activities and providing feedback related to the team process.

Requirements:

1. At least one year of patient care experience, which can vary in level of long-term care, specialty, acute care, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Proficient in reading and writing in English

Education:

GED or HiSET

Certifications:

Basic Life Support
