Position Overview:
As a Senior Electrical Engineering Manager at Sargent & Lundy, you will leverage your extensive expertise in protective relaying and control systems specifically for high voltage (HV) and extra high voltage (EHV) substations.

Key Responsibilities:
In this leadership role, you will oversee an engineering and design team tasked with executing a variety of substation modifications and enhancements to meet client specifications. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing comprehensive calculations, design documents, and specifications.
  • Formulating relaying philosophies, which encompass the selection of relay, control, and communication equipment.
  • Creating SCADA and telecommunication concepts and configurations.
  • Supervising the preparation of I/O assignments and connection diagrams.

As a Senior Electrical Engineering Manager, you will guide both junior and senior engineers and designers in their protection and controls engineering design efforts. You will also coordinate detailed design phases across all engineering aspects.

Project Involvement:
Engage in challenging projects that require investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of diverse engineering challenges. Your tasks will include:

  • Conducting analysis and design of single line diagrams and substation relaying & metering diagrams.
  • Preparing engineering studies for client and peer evaluations.
  • Performing independent reviews of calculations and drawing preparations.

Collaboration:
Work closely with other engineers, project managers, client representatives, and suppliers to ensure timely and complete designs. You will also assess existing facilities to recommend upgrades and replacements, presenting your findings to clients and peers.

Professional Development:
Enhance your career through peer-learning and knowledge sharing within Sargent & Lundy’s established systems and communities of practice. You will also mentor less experienced engineers, fostering their professional growth.

Travel Opportunities:
This role may involve travel to client and vendor locations for design reviews and site visits for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program and a minimum of 10 years of experience focused on high voltage substations, including design, installation, and coordination. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is essential.

Essential Skills:
Proficiency in MS Office applications and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Preferred Skills:
Experience in writing support documentation for relay calculations, familiarity with design codes and standards, and proficiency in relevant software tools such as SKM, ETAP, or AutoCAD will be advantageous.
