Position Overview

The Engineering & Design Team Supervisor will primarily act as a consultant, implementing best practices and fostering positive transformations in a sector that is continuously adapting to regulatory shifts. This role will report directly to the Vice President of Utilities East and will be pivotal in fulfilling our mission to meet client expectations, ensuring service quality, mentoring team members, and exploring new business avenues. The position offers significant exposure to both E2 and client leadership, along with a promising career trajectory for those who exhibit outstanding leadership and project delivery skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison for clients: Manage all work requests, establish clear delivery expectations, prepare quotes, and promote E2's service offerings that align with client needs. Regularly engage with client sponsors to gather feedback on team performance.
  • Provide expert Engineering and Project Management leadership for client projects related to utilities.
  • Preferably possess experience in pipeline engineering and related facilities, with the ability to transition into individual contributor roles, such as creating design drawings and calculations.
  • Exhibit effective client management by responding promptly to requests and meeting with clients on short notice to discuss their needs, upcoming projects, emergencies, and potential business opportunities, which may require travel.
  • Facilitate team meetings to ensure project objectives are achieved safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with industry and client standards.
  • Set clear expectations with clients regarding deliverables and communicate any changes thoroughly and promptly.
  • Optimize team resources to reduce non-billable time and overhead costs.
  • Be prepared to assume a billable role when necessary to manage peak workloads or urgent requests.
  • Engage in individual contributor tasks, including planning and designing all aspects of natural gas distribution and transmission projects, conducting field visits for data collection, completing design phases, performing pipe stress analysis, and producing construction drawing packages.
  • Assess team requirements based on client requests and facilitate the onboarding process for new hires, including creating job descriptions, vetting applications, and conducting interviews.
  • Participate in ongoing project meetings with clients.
  • Share responsibility for the operational growth of the division.
  • Ensure clients receive the highest level of service.
  • Effectively onboard, develop, lead, and mentor team members.
  • Make fiscally responsible decisions to meet or exceed P&L performance metrics.
  • Maintain a solution-oriented approach while being responsive to both clients and E2 leadership.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key partners while developing new connections.
  • Ensure successful execution of operational and strategic plans.
  • Foster strategic alliances within the organization to collaboratively implement business strategies.
  • Create an environment focused on customer satisfaction, integrating client perspectives into all business activities.
  • Engage in client presentations, sales visits, and promotional events as needed to communicate the company's vision and service offerings.
  • Review daily activity reports and financial statements to assess progress toward divisional objectives and adjust plans as necessary.
  • Implement appropriate quality control programs.
  • Champion strategic and analytical problem-solving approaches, utilizing experience and data to determine optimal solutions for the team and clients.
  • Conduct presentations for staff and clients as required.
  • Oversee the preparation of data and reporting for the team and clients.
  • Review and approve team time entries to ensure a smooth billing process.

Other related tasks may be assigned to maximize client satisfaction and team morale.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Engineering, Construction, or Project Management within the Natural Gas Pipeline sector.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Utilities industry, preferably with a focus on Natural Gas Utility.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Project Management and/or Project Controls practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of Utility Engineering and Design methodologies.
  • Familiarity with industry and government codes and standards.
  • Understanding of recent regulatory changes impacting the industry.
  • Knowledge of Pipeline Integrity principles and Cathodic Protection systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Strong interpersonal and proactive problem-solving abilities.
  • Critical thinking skills to evaluate alternative solutions.
  • Teamwork-oriented with strong collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to work various shifts or odd hours as needed.
  • Active PE License required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP and/or CCM certification.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience with liquid pipelines.
  • Experience in contract execution and sourcing events.
  • Participation in process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working with unions and understanding prevailing wages.
  • Ability to thrive in complex, fast-paced environments.
  • Public speaking skills for delivering solutions or marketing services.
