The Homeless Services Advocate plays a crucial role in providing ongoing case management, ensuring that clients receive the necessary resources to achieve permanent housing and stability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to crisis hotline inquiries, offering immediate support to those experiencing homelessness or at risk.
  • Evaluate eligibility for various programs and services.
  • Collect and complete necessary documentation for financial assistance requests.
  • Maintain accurate records in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and agency databases.
  • Deliver emergency counseling and crisis intervention services.
  • Adhere to all relevant Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Conduct assessments to identify client strengths, needs, and goals, and create actionable plans.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust plans as needed.
  • Conduct on-site visits to provide direct support.
  • Facilitate connections to community resources and services.
  • Act as a mediator between clients and landlords or service providers when necessary.
  • Assist clients in obtaining essential supplies and services.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all interactions and services provided.
  • Educate clients on preventing future housing crises.
  • Coordinate transportation for clients to access necessary services.
  • Collaborate effectively with other agencies and community partners.
  • Provide guidance on financial management and home maintenance.
  • Engage in additional duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to connect with diverse populations facing various challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with clients in a compassionate and supportive manner.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with service providers and colleagues.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and adaptable to changing needs.
  • Flexibility in work hours to accommodate program requirements.
  • Commitment to a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor with sound judgment and resourcefulness.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License and reliable transportation for client travel.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's Degree in Behavioral Sciences or Human Services, and
  • One to three years of relevant experience in human services or housing programs, or
  • A combination of education, experience, and training that meets the requirements.

Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with required flexibility.
