Cytotechnologist - Diagnostic Specialist

St. Luke's Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Cytotechnologist to join our team. As a Cytotechnologist, you will be responsible for performing complex laboratory testing, screening gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens for premalignant, malignant, and inflammatory changes. You will also be responsible for teaching/training of students and/or new employees, problem-solving, and quality control.
Responsibilities:
• Perform laboratory tests according to established protocols as designated by section/site supervisor.
• Accurately and efficiently screen gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation with the aid of consulting technical services.
• Assume responsibility for problem-solving, teaching of new employees, and instrument maintenance.
• Monitor inventory of supplies and report low volume to Technical Coordinator.
• Accurately enter slide interpretations into the laboratory computer system.
• Attend continuing education or training sessions inside and/or outside of the hospital campus to meet minimum standards of accrediting agencies.
• Demonstrate competence in assigned areas of responsibilities.
• Demonstrate competence in the assessment, range of treatment, and knowledge of growth and development appropriate to the age of the patient treated (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, or geriatric).
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
• Sitting up to 7 hours per day - 2 hour increments.
• Standing up to 3 hours per day - 1 hour increments.
• Walking - up to 2 hours per day - short increments.
• Frequently uses fingers to screen slides and enter results in the computer.
• Continuously uses hands while screening microscopic slides, adjusting and focusing the microscope.
• Rarely lifts boxes, slide files, or slide folders up to 25 pounds.
• Rarely carries objects up to 25 pounds.
• Rarely bends/stoops or crouches.
• Rarely reaches above shoulder level.
• Hearing as it relates to normal conversation.
• Seeing as it relates to general far/near/color and peripheral vision and depth perception.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Training and Experience:
• Graduate from an approved Cytotechnology program.
• ASCP registered or eligible.
