Job Summary

Cayuga Health System is seeking a skilled Health Information Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for compiling, processing, and maintaining medical records in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately and efficiently file patient information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Respond to inbound calls and emails in a timely and professional manner.
  • Process requests for patient information, ensuring the minimum necessary protected health information (PHI) is used only for purposes identified or as required by law.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and confidentiality laws, including HIPAA.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Good computer skills and organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains highest level of confidentiality at all times with both patient and organizational information.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Previous EMR use/training.

Work Environment
  • Sedentary-100% computer work.
  • Remote work arrangement with occasional travel to Ithaca, NY for equipment pickup/drop off.

Compensation
  • $19.49 to $24.40 per hour.
