The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing data-driven models and algorithms to enhance the underwriting process. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and presentation skills.

We offer a competitive salary of $140,000 per year, plus benefits including medical, dental, vision, and a wellbeing reimbursement account. We also provide generous paid time off options, paid parental leave, and a 401k savings plan with company match.

Job Description
We are actively seeking a talented Sr Data Scientist to join our SMS Data Science Team in Newport Beach, CA. This role can be hybrid or 100% remote (depending on location). As a Senior Data Scientist, you'll play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by providing model-driven insights to business partners.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Lead the development and implementation of data-driven models and algorithms to enhance the underwriting process.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including underwriting, actuarial, and technology, to identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation.
• Analyze large and complex datasets to extract actionable insights and support decision-making.
• Develop predictive models to assess risk and improve underwriting accuracy.
• Implement machine learning techniques to automate and optimize underwriting workflows.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in data science and machine learning.
• Mentor and guide junior data scientists and analysts.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders through clear and concise reports and presentations.

Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field. They should have proven experience (8+ years) as a Data Scientist in the life/health insurance industry, with strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL. Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries is also required.

Additionally, the successful candidate should have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication and presentation skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
