Established in 1889, our agency serves multiple counties in California, focusing on a comprehensive range of mental health services for older adults, including workforce development, economic security, case management, and advocacy.
Role Summary:
This role within the Senior Services Medical Support Team involves delivering psychiatric care across various programs for older adults. The psychiatrist will be responsible for conducting psychiatric evaluations, managing medication assessments, prescribing treatments, and monitoring patient progress as an integral member of the treatment team. Responsibilities will also encompass crisis intervention, evaluations, and collaboration with primary care providers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations and manage medication prescriptions and monitoring.
- Provide services in community settings or clinics.
- Administer injections and order necessary diagnostic tests.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including psychiatric nurse practitioners and case managers.
- Engage in therapy and educational initiatives for clients, focusing on harm reduction and relapse prevention.
- Facilitate referrals and connections to additional services for client support.
- Coordinate medical care with primary care providers and specialists.
- Provide expertise in conservatorship matters as required.
- Maintain a client caseload and ensure coverage for other caseloads as necessary.
- Keep clinical records in compliance with mandated standards.
- Offer ongoing education to non-medical staff regarding psychopharmacology and patient care.
- Perform additional duties to support the program and medical support teams.
Qualifications:
- Valid license from the appropriate California Board.
- Experience and interest in geriatric mental health.
- Commitment to supporting individuals and families facing behavioral health challenges.
- Knowledge of diagnostic and treatment methodologies for mental health conditions.
- Understanding of human behavior, psychological research methods, and treatment of behavioral disorders.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Awareness of social dynamics and the ability to respond appropriately.
- Service-oriented mindset with a focus on helping others.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a culturally sensitive framework.
- Valid California Driver's license and access to a vehicle preferred.
