e&e IT Consulting Services, Inc. is looking for a COBOL Software Engineer for a remote contract opportunity.

We are in search of a proficient COBOL Software Engineer to contribute to our IT department. In this position, you will be tasked with the design, development, and upkeep of COBOL applications that are vital to our essential transportation frameworks. You will collaborate with fellow developers, analysts, and stakeholders to guarantee the effective functioning and enhancement of our legacy systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and sustain COBOL programs to facilitate transportation-related applications.
  • Conduct system analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.
  • Work with business analysts and users to comprehend requirements and convert them into technical specifications.
  • Engage in performance tuning and optimization of COBOL applications.
  • Offer technical support and troubleshooting for COBOL-based systems.
  • Participate in code evaluations and ensure compliance with coding standards and best practices.
  • Update and maintain existing COBOL programs to align with evolving business requirements and technology standards.
  • Assist in the transition of legacy systems to contemporary platforms as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated experience in COBOL programming, encompassing development, maintenance, and support of COBOL applications.
  • Strong understanding of mainframe environments, including JCL, VSAM, CICS, and DB2.
  • Experience with system analysis, design, and testing methodologies.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a government or transportation sector.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of modern programming languages and tools for potential integration or migration projects.
