Job Title: Principal Data Engineer

Job Overview

The Principal Data Engineer will mentor a team of data engineers responsible for designing, developing, and implementing scalable, cloud-based data solutions that support real-time and batch processing. This role will inform the planning and roadmap for the Data Engineering team and own the quality of the data pipelines the team builds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to the design, development, and implementation of cloud-based data solutions that support real-time and batch processing.
  • Collaborate with the team to analyze, architect, design, and develop data warehouse and business analytics solutions that are scalable and maintainable for future growth.
  • Architect and implement robust, efficient ETL/ELT frameworks, leveraging in-house tools to ensure data quality, governance, and compliance across all layers.
  • Mentor other team members in their efforts to build data architect skillsets and drive best practices for data pipeline development, data management, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Assist team management in defining projects, including helping estimate, plan, and scope work.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to define the enterprise-level data strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and technical roadmaps.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the data engineering practice, focusing on automation, optimization, and innovation.
  • Evaluate and introduce new technologies and frameworks to stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring our systems are future-ready and competitive.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related subject area, or equivalent experience.
  • 7-10 years of related experience, including 5+ years developing cloud solutions using data services.
  • Minimum 3+ years of managing data engineering teams.
  • Experience designing and building self-service analytics and big data solutions using cloud technologies.
  • Leading/coaching senior engineers and/or managers.
  • Experience with the Software development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum methods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage global projects or programs, including work prioritization, planning, and coordination.
  • Hands-on experience in programming languages like Python and/or Scala.
  • Proficiency in Git or Terraform, with demonstrated experience in building and effectively utilizing CI/CD practices.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, building and maintaining trust with internal stakeholders.
  • Passionate about learning new technologies.
