Position Overview:

The Oncology Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) plays a vital role in our collaborative team, providing high-quality care to both inpatients and outpatients receiving oncology services. This position involves administering chemotherapy and other treatments as directed by the primary veterinarian, ensuring that all procedures are carried out in a calm and efficient manner. The CVT will work closely with veterinarians and department managers to ensure that patient care is delivered safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Maintenance: Ensure cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, including disinfecting surfaces and maintaining medical equipment.
  • Patient Care: Safely restrain animals for examinations and treatments, administer medications, and assist in surgical procedures.
  • Client Communication: Gather and document patient histories, provide updates to pet owners, and educate them on treatment plans.
  • Laboratory Duties: Collect and process laboratory samples, perform diagnostic tests, and maintain laboratory supplies.
  • Radiology: Conduct radiographic procedures and ensure the proper functioning of imaging equipment.
  • Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as assigned to support the veterinary team.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) credential or equivalent from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure in the state of practice is required.
  • Strong understanding of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
  • Experience in a veterinary oncology or specialty medicine setting is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficient in medical calculations and understanding of animal anatomy.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs independently and assist with heavier loads.
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic environment with exposure to various animal sounds and medical conditions.
